Discover "Blue Carbon" Through "Shell Art"
Through scientific calculations, we know that the primary component of every shellfish and its cultured pearl—calcium carbonate—contains approximately 12% carbon by elemental weight. This is not just a chemical fact; it's a key link between pearl farming and carbon sequestration (carbon storage): Shellfish absorb carbon dioxide from seawater and convert it into their hard shells, acting as a natural "blue carbon" reservoir that helps mitigate climate change. (A quick online search or AI query will show you how pearl farming contributes to marine carbon sink systems—for example, a medium-sized pearl farm can lock away tens of tons of carbon each year.)
But how can people actively participate in this environmental effort? In just 1.5 hours, participants will learn how shellfish filter seawater, restore marine ecosystems, and—through hands-on shell craft creation—personally tell the story of the ocean and its sustainable value. This is more than just an art workshop; it's an immersive experience that connects science, environmental protection, and everyday life, empowering you to become part of the ocean's guardians!

Educational Philosophy
Pearls are not only natural gemstones but also a microcosm of human history and technological progress. In the past, the pearl industry cost lives and exploited the natural resources. Today, with scientific advancements and growing awareness of conservation, it has become a model of sustainable development. A single discipline cannot fully explain the diverse values of pearls. "Sustainable Pearl Education" integrates interdisciplinary knowledge, encouraging students to integrate the humanities, science, and ecology, cultivating a comprehensive perspective and exploring the connections between the pearl industry and global sustainability goals.
